San Juan, Texas – On [November 21,2009], the American Diabetes Association will host [Step Out to Fight Diabetes] at [Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle-National Shrine] from [7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.] in support of American Diabetes Month® and the launch of its movement to Stop Diabetes(SM).
Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions. Nearly 24 million children and adults have the disease in the United States , including the Rio Grande Valley . An additional 57 million are at risk for type 2 diabetes. Attendees of the [Step Out to Fight Diabetes] will learn how they can help the American Diabetes Association confront, fight and most importantly, Stop Diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.
Founded in 1940, our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. “Diabetes plagues the moments, days, and even years of many people in our community,” said [Laura Longoria Associate Director of the Rio Grande Valley].
“Stopping diabetes will take courage and commitment. It will also take action. By attending [Step Out to Fight Diabetes], you will take the first step in helping us alter the course of a disease that, if nothing is done, will continue to strike a new individual every 20 seconds in this country.”
Let’s help support this cause and spread awareness on a disease that takes thousands of lives because together we can make a difference. For more information about [Step Out to Fight Diabetes] please contact [Laura Longoria 956-631-1118, llongoria@diabetes.org or Julie Lara @ lara.julie@heb.com].
