Dr. Luis Reyes and Dr. Wayne B. Wilson will be speaking on the topic “Managing Your Health” at the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women’s Conference “Our True Colors – Making Women Extraordinary” to be held on Thursday June 17, at the Renaissance Casa de Palmas Hotel from 8.00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Luis Reyes specializes in general, vascular, and bariatric surgery.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery.  Dr. Reyes is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. 

He received his formal training in advanced minimally invasive procedures, including obesity surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center.  Dr. Reyes is the leader in weight loss surgery in McAllen since 2001, and to the present, he has performed more a thousand procedures including gastric bypass, lap band surgery and sleeve gastrectomy.

Dr. Wayne B. Wilson has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Rio Grande Valley since 1984 with Landrum Chester OB-Gyn Associates.  Before coming to the Valley he did his medical training in Dallas at UT Southwestern Medical School and his residency in OB-Gyn at Parkland Hospital, also in Dallas.  

He also has a Masters in Business Administration from the Krannert School of Business at Purdue University in Indiana.  During medical school he did a two year externship in Psychiatry at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital in Dallas.  

His current practice includes routine gynecology with special interest in menopausal issues, urinary incontinence, evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and other emotional issues, and family planning.  He also takes care of normal as well as high-risk pregnancies.

Dr. Wilson is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  He is a fellow of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has served on their board.  He has received numerous honors over the course of his career.  

During his residency he was chosen as an honorary Chief Resident.  In 1990 he was chosen Doctor of the Year at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, and in 1996-1997 he was elected Chief of Staff.  In 1998 he was elected to the Best Doctors in America and has been reelected to this honor annually since.  In 2010 he was given the Frist Humanitarian Award.

The Women’s Conference will focus on professional and personal development, work-life-balance and will provide excellent networking opportunities.
